12 Days of Holiday: Candy Cane Casual

Happy Holidays!

Jeans:  Torrid (Available here)
Scarf:  The Limited (old) (Similar here)
Today's casual look is a holiday-inspired outfit I wore this past weekend to an ornament exchange party.  The party was casual, but I wanted an outfit that felt a little bit festive.
Blazer:  Torrid
I started with this red and white striped scarf that always reminds me of candy canes and added a black and white striped blazer for a fun mixed striped effect.
Camisole:  LOFT (Available here)
Boots:  Fergalicious by Fergie (Available here)
Purse:  Target (Available in navy here)
Bracelets:  The Limited
Earrings:  The Limited (old)
The green purse adds to the holiday color theme.

Singin' the Blues: Attention!

Hi everyone.  I apologize for cutting Fall Color Week short and being absent over the last few weeks.

I have a ton of reasons for not posting, but I think it comes down to an issue I've dealt with off and on during my adult life.  I go through periods of over-stress (usually coupled with sleep deprivation).  When these happen, I develop a generalized apathy and melancholy that leaves me unfulfilled by things I love, like blogging.  I'm working through it, and thankfully, some of the recent stressors have reduced or disappeared.

I have several posts lined up for the next week, so hopefully things will be back on track soon!  Thanks so much for sticking with me!!!

Blazer:  The Limited (Available here)
Pants:  The Limited (Similar here)
Today, I'm starting with Singin' the Blues Week - a week of one of this fall's hottest colors!

The color navy is the subtlest and easiest to wear of the blues.   It's perfect for conservative work places, but it functions well as a neutral for many occasions.

For years, I wasn't a fan of navy as I saw it as too conservative and classic for me.  I love classic, but it has to have an interesting modern or tough edge.  Somewhere along the line, I became a navy convert, especially when worn with other neutrals as I did here.

Purse:  Target (May be available in stores; similar here)
Shirt:  The Limited (old) (Similar here)
When done in streamlined shapes, navy brings with it much of what I love about black - it's dark, it's sleek and sophisticated, and it is forever versatile.

Today's navy look also plays into fall's military trend (see more here).  I love how military pieces like this blazer look very polished and even just a teensy bit edgy.

Heels:  Target (Similar here)
Bracelets:  The Limited (Available here)

Playful Patterns

Hi everyone, and happy Friday!!!
Dress:  LOFT
I hope today's look puts a smile on your face because it certainly does mine!

As most of you probably know by now, black and white is my favorite color combo and I love mixed prints.

Cardigan:  Torrid
Shoes:  Target (old)
The fit and flare shape of the dress and red peep-toe heels lend the look a retro vibe.

I only wore this outfit long enough for pictures, but I would definitely wear it to a bridal or baby shower or for another fun or festive occasion.

Clutch:  The Limited
And because joy is so often found in play...
Have a great weekend everyone!!  :-D

Stripes Week: Crochet Flowers

Happy Friday, everyone!

Today, I end Stripes Week with another work outfit, and I figured why not wrap it up with more black and white!

I like that the stripes on this top aren't literal but created out of the pattern of the crochet flowers.
Blouse:  Ann Taylor Petites
Jacket:  LOFT Petites (Available in regular sizes here)
Tote:  New York & Company
The textured detail of the top adds visual interest to this outfit, and the blue pants add just enough color.
Pants:  The Limited (Available in other colors here)
Heels:  Target (old)
Sorry for only two pics - I have had a squinty-eyed smile ALWAYS, and my eyes were closed in EVERY other picture.  ;-D

Hope you enjoyed Stripes Week!

P.S.  Check out this awesome young lady from my hometown!  Link to her Facebook page here.  Trendy juniors clothier Wet Seal has developed a plus size line, and Karrie recently caught their attention.  Her dreams of becoming a model are about to come true!  Kudos to Wet Seal for appreciating diverse beauty.  Karrie is so awesome and determined - a true inspiration!

Stripes Week: Working Black and White

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Stripes Week continues with this recent black and white work ensemble.
Jacket:  Torrid (Available here)
Blouse:  Old Navy Petites (old)
Pants:  The Limited (Similar here)
Shoes:  Target (Similar here)
I guess I should have called this week's theme "Black and White Stripes Week" as every outfit featured this week has included my favorite color combo!
Tote:  The Limited
Bracelet:  Torrid
Necklace:  The Limited
This is one of my favorite ways to wear black and white.  I wore my burgundy heels for a subtle pop of color.  I'm so ready for fall, so burgundy shoes are a great way to get a touch of fall while it's still warm.

Stripes Week: Print-tastic!

Today's striped look is a recent work outfit.
Dress:  LOFT (Sold out on-line; May be available in stores)
It's bold in its mix of prints and graphic black and white combo, but the shapes are classic and demure.
Blazer:  Torrid (Available here)
I thought this outfit was a little too loud for a normal work day (at my job), but I wore it for a casual Friday, so I felt like I could get away with the mixed patterns.
Clutch:  Target (old)
Flower cuff:  Claire's (old)
It's a fun and whimsical look that makes working during the summertime a little less of a bummer.  You know what they say about all work and no play?  Well, this summer has involved lots of work and not enough play, so I am compensating with some fashion play!  Gotta keep summertime from getting too dull!  :-)
Sandals:  Payless

Whimsy for Work

Hope you all had a great week and are enjoying your weekend!

I've spent the last two weeks in suits, so yesterday, when I had the opportunity to have a little more fun with my work look, I seized it.

Blazer:  Torrid (Available here)
Blouse:  Forenza by The Limited
"Evil eye" ring:  H&M
Bracelets:  Target, World Market
While I try to maintain a fairly conservative look for work, I do love adding a little whimsy sometimes through bold color choices, pattern mixing, and fun accessories like my "evil eye" ring and snake earring (close-ups here and here, respectively).
Pants:  The Limited
Purse:  Target (Available here
)
Shoes:  Target

Graphic Flow

Pants:  Target (old)
Today's black and white look pairs silky pajama style pants with an asymmetrical trapeze tank.
Tank:  Target (old)
Clutch:  The Limited (Available here)

Neon pink heels add a pop of color and the polka dot clutch adds another fun graphic print to the look.
Shoes:  Target (Available here)
Ring:  Purchased at local jewelry show
I love this look!!  It's super comfortable and is such a relaxed way to look chic while going out.
Cuff:  The Limited
Slouchy pants and a trapeze tank definitely break the fashion rules for short curvy girls, but who cares?  Rules are meant to be broken, right?! ;-D

Today's look also provides a segue into this week's feature - black and white!  All looks this week will feature this major spring trend!

Hope you enjoy!!
